five ways to back yourself everyday
1. get clear on your values
Understand what’s important to you and use that as a compass to guide your actions and decisions. When you know your why and your values, you naturally become more confident in your actions.
Here’s an activity to find your values.
2. celebrate your successes
Make a conscious effort to acknowledge and celebrate your accomplishments - big and small. If you spoke up for something you believe in during an awkward conversation, celebrate that. If you met a big goal you’ve been working on at work, celebrate that. If you took out the trash when you really couldn’t be bothered, celebrate that too.
By celebrating your successes you reinforce your brain’s reward system, which sets you up for more success down the road.
3. take care of yourself
Make time for self-care. Explore what you need to feel in balance - exercise, food, downtime, baths, massage, long walks. A nurtured mind and body is more likely to make aligned decisions.
When we feel balanced, we make better decisions, we’re more in control of our emotions, we are more ‘we’ - more aligned with ourselves. Personally, when I’m tired, I haven’t worked out or journaled or meditated, I haven’t had a moment to myself to listen to a podcast or good music on a long walk, that’s when I lose it.
We owe it to ourselves to nurture our minds, nurture our bodies, to feel more aligned, and move through life with more grace. that’s how you back yourself.

4. learn from your mistakes
Be honest with yourself when you fuck up, or act in a way that doesn’t feel aligned, don’t let it get you down, grow from it instead.
Part of showing up for yourself is also keeping yourself in check. That means being honest with yourself when you’re procrastinating, or when you let your emotions get the best of you. Apologizing to yourself or others when your actions are misaligned with your true intentions. Acknowledging mistakes as to not repeat them too often – backing yourself means working towards being the best version of you.
5. set goals for yourself
To really back yourself, spend time thinking about what you truly want and go after it. Set goals for yourself and track your progress. Set SMART goals.
S: is for SPECIFIC
set goals that are specific and significant to you. You’ll feel more inspired to reach them.
ask: what do I want to accomplish? Why is this important to me?
M: is for MEASURABLE
if your goals are measurable you’ll be able to stay focused as you feel yourself getting closer to your target
ask : how will I know when my goal is accomplished? What will be my measure of progress?
A: is for ACHIEVABLE
set goals that are challenging enough to inspire and motivate you, while still being realistic
ask : is my goal attainable? What skills, attitudes and abilities will I use?
R: is for RELEVANT
set goals that matter to you and align with you bigger picture and your vision for the future
ask: does this goal resonate with me? Is now the right time to focus on this?
T: is for TIME BOUND
set a target date for your goals and create an action timetable with the steps you’ll take
ask: what steps do I need to take to reach my goals? When will I take each step?
