transformational journaling tips and prompts

Journaling can be anything from a fun hobby to free therapy. When we make time for it, and turn it into a habit, the effects can be transformational in nurturing our mental health, conquering fears, problem-solving, and boosting our self-confidence and self-awareness.

Unsure how to start? Here are some ideas and prompts.

1. Remove the fantasy

Journaling doesn't need to look like neat handwriting in a beautifully bound book. It can be 10 minutes using your phone on your commute. Make it fit into your life.

2. Morning pages

The power of journaling comes from making it a habit. Upon waking, write down everything on your mind – even if you don't feel like it. Let it flow.

3. Talk it out

Journaling also works in the form of voice recording. Go on a walk and record yourself speaking out loud. It may feel strange at first but speak freely without filtering what you say.

4. Get creative

Journaling doesn't necessarily equal writing. It can be a scrapbook for your mind, full of messy scribbles, drawings, collages, quotes, words – there are no rules.

5. Prompts

  • How was your day? what were the highlights – and what were the lows?

  • When you are most happy? describe moments in detail.

  • Write to yourself as a good friend. Offer encouragement and advice.
