eight tips for getting better sleep

We've all been told we should be aiming for 7-8 hours of sleep. But what if you're still struggling to fall asleep?

Scroll down for 8 tips to feel fresh each morning.

1. Sanctuary

Make your bedroom your sleep sanctuary. make it a space infused in peace and serenity. keep electronics and admin out of your room.

2. Limit screens

Switch off your devices at least one hour before going to bed. Put your phone on airplane mode. don't use your phone in bed. Use Fluxx to switch from blue to amber light in the evenings.

3. Ritual

Create your own sleep ritual. Take some time to unwind. pamper and wash away the day. read a good book in bed for 30 minutes. listen to a guided meditation or a bedtime story. turn on a candle.

4. Timings

Develop a sleep routine. Try going to bed and waking up at the same time everyday. Eat your last meal at least 3 hours before bed. Don't drink caffeine late in the day.

5. Morning light

Kickstart your circadian rhythm. spend at least 10 minutes basking in daylight before starting your day. Studies suggest this'll help you fall asleep later.

6. Move

Get into the habit of moving your body each morning, each day. This helps you feel energised in anticipation of movement – and more sleepy later.

7. Chill

It's easy to get frustrated when you can't sleep. Instead of fighting it, embrace the opportunity to rest in other ways.

8. Visualisation

Think of a task you perform daily such as going on a walk. In detail, visualise taking that walk – be present in every imaginary action you take.
